Leaving aside his glaring fictionalization, Iggulden seems to delight in creating wholly unappealing main characters. Meanwhile, in Rome, Gaius accompanies Marius on his Triumph before being confirmed as a Senator in his own right. The ending was a little cheesy, but kinda good cheese. He abandoned the history almost entirely, and the reader is left with an alternate history that only vaguely relates to what really happened.
